My Education

Associate of Science in Computer Science

Associate of Science in Computer Science

I graduated in December 2021 with my Associate of Science in Computer Science from Glendale Community College in Arizona. The two-year program provided a solid foundation in programming, data structures, computer architecture, and basic operating systems. It also included essential math courses like calculus and discrete mathematics, along with a variety of general education classes in English, science, and the humanities. These courses, combined with hands-on labs and collaborative projects, helped me build both technical skills and problem-solving abilities.

During my degree, I worked on several notable projects. One of the most memorable was a team effort to build a Lego robot called "Poop Scoop." The robot was designed to be remotely controlled and could pick up waste using a bag attached to its claws, making the cleanup process less messy. My primary role in this project was programming and calibrating the robot’s movements, which contributed to the project's overall success.

Another project involved building a small rocket in teams of two. The goal was for the rocket to launch and deploy a parachute once it began descending. I was responsible for ensuring the wiring was correctly configured and that the parachute system functioned properly. Our launch and parachute deployment were both successful, though we lost the rocket after it landed on private property.

In addition to team projects, I also completed several individual programming assignments. One of my favorites was a text-based game called Xianthium, created using Python. The game was designed to showcase our ability to create interactive experiences based on user input while reflecting our interests and technical skills. This project allowed me to combine creativity with coding and further strengthened my programming foundation.

Associate of Arts

Associate of Science in Computer Science

Associate of Science in Computer Science

I graduated in December 2021 with my Associate of Arts (AA) degree from Glendale Community College in Arizona. The two-year program provided me with a well-rounded education, allowing me to explore a variety of subjects in the humanities, social sciences, and natural sciences, along with general education courses that developed my critical thinking and communication skills. The AA degree gave me a broad understanding of the world and helped me prepare for future academic or career pursuits.

During my degree, I took several classes that deepened my knowledge and perspective. One class that stood out was Introduction to Education, where I volunteered at Heritage Elementary School with a 5th-grade class. This experience taught me not only what it takes to be a teacher but also the importance of being a role model and support system for students, helping me understand the impact of education on young minds.

Another significant part of my education was taking multiple semesters of American Sign Language. These classes allowed me to interact with a wonderful community of deaf and hard-of-hearing individuals, and they gave me a deeper understanding of deaf culture. I also learned how much progress has been made in making everyday tasks more accessible and how much work still needs to be done to ensure that accessibility is available to everyone.

"Oh yes, the past can hurt. But from the way I see it, you can either run from it or learn from it."
